FAQ's

Why should I train a SPD Factory?

Two Reasons

1. Because what we do works. We train you like an elite athlete and obviously, what elite athletes do works.

2. Because you deserve it. Stop wasting your time and money on myths, gimmicks and quackery that don’t give you results and come to SPD.

What if I’m not an athlete?

You don’t have to be an athlete. In fact, a lot of our participants are “regular” people, but they recognize that hard work will get them the results they are seeking. This is addressed in several parts of the site so feel free to have a read…you might learn something.

Is this safe for children?

Yes. Every person, adult and child, is under constant supervision by a Strength and Conditioning Coach ensuring proper technique, safety, and load prescription. Training at SPD Factory is probably safer than the sport the athletes are participating in. “Strength training programs for pre-adolescents and adolescents can be safe and effective if proper resistance training techniques and safety precautions are followed”.– American Academy of Pediatrics

What is the youngest you allow?

At this time we will accept athletes in our group program as young as eight years of age. Any athlete younger will be dealt with on an individual basis.

How much does it cost?

How much is your health and fitness worth to you? How bad do you want to get off the bench or get noticed for a scholarship? How serious are you about reaching your goals? We don’t post our rates intentionally because it only gives people another excuse not to better themselves and as any member will tell you, we don’t accept excuses .We aren’t hiding anything; we only want you to make an educated decision as to whether or not this is for you. Call and book your free session - all it will cost is your time. After participation we will be happy to discuss all of your training options. When you are ready to change your life we will be happy to book you in for your free session.

What should I wear / bring?

A good pair of athletic shoes is required. We recommend comfortable loose fitting clothes. T-shirts and shorts are the suggested combo. Track pants are too hot and do not allow enough mobility – we’ve had a few people blow them out. A water bottle (which can be purchased at the gym) and small sweat towel are also suggested.

Will this training interfere with my sport?

No. If the demands of your sport are too high we simply won’t allow you to train with us until your commitments are lighter. The last thing we want to do is over train our athletes and be a hindrance instead of helping them get better. We have training options with as few as 1 day per week. We want to help optimize your performance, not stifle it.

I’m a girl, will this make me bulky?

No, our program does not follow bodybuilding principles and is not conducive to putting on a lot of useless mass. Read this article for more information: http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/displayarticle.php?aid=45

What if I already have a gym membership?

Read this article: “Is Your Workout Wasting Your Time?, and then come give SPD Factory a try.

You do a lot of squats…aren’t they bad for your knees?

No. And by the way, you do them every day - how else do you get off the toilet? Not only is the squat foundational to athleticism, but even more importantly, it’s foundational to functional independence. Squatting has developed a reputation of being unsafe because of the prevalence of atrocious form and severe inflexibility. Properly performed squats and related movements will fortify the knees, hips and back—not damage them—and help prevent injury in the future. Avoiding movements your body was engineered to perform is the best way to ensure injury and your body’s failure to function properly for you. Our coaches spend a great deal of time teaching our members proper form in all movements and constantly monitor performance to ensure safety and optimal benefits.

What if I want to just look and feel good?

Then you are not unlike a lot of our members. People don’t train at SPD Factory exclusively for increased athletic performance; some simply want the best possible results in the least possible time. We train all of our members as if they were world-class athletes because this unequivocally produces superior results in all of us. Why train in a way that inherently limits your potential for success? Why restrict yourself to simply looking good when you can look better, feel better AND perform better?
